Genetic Technologies hires law firm to help expand biotech patent licensing

New York, March 27 - Genetic Technologies Ltd. said it has appointed Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky LLP to help bring in new licensing customers, especially on the U.S. East Coast.

Previously the company named California-based licensing firm PatentBridge LLC to a similar role on the West Coast and London-based SJ Berwin for the United Kingdom and Europe.

Genetic Technologies is expanding the licensing program for its non-coding patents, which it believes are relevant to the activities of many biotechnology companies and research teams.

The patents are issued in all 24 countries in which they were originally filed. Genetic Technologies said it has successfully settled six legal challenges on terms it called "favorable" and is now focusing on maximizing its licensing opportunities during the next 10 years before the patents expire.

So far the company has approved 30 licenses, 25 of them to businesses, for a total of A$53 million.

Genetic Technologies is based in Melbourne, Australia.
