Morgan Keegan hires Schmelzer and DaBreo for public finance group

By Toni Weeks

San Diego, May 10 - Morgan Keegan & Co., Inc. has hired Susan C. Schmelzer and Joseph DaBreo for the firm's public finance investment banking group, with Schmelzer joining Morgan Keegan's New York office as a managing director and DaBreo joining the Boston office as a senior vice president.

"The in-depth knowledge and extensive experience that Susan and Joe bring to our public finance practice will add to and further enhance a veteran team we've built over the past few years in the Northeast," Rob Baird, executive managing director and president of the firm's investment banking division, said in a press release announcing the hires.

Schmelzer's 27-year career has focused on providing investment banking services to New York agencies, authorities and local governmental entities, including the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York and the New York Municipal Bond Bank Agency. She joins the firm from Jefferies & Co. and has also worked at Roosevelt & Cross.

DaBreo joins Morgan Keegan after spending 13 years at the former Lehman Brothers, now Barclays Capital, where he was lead banker for key state-level client issuers as well as public and private higher educational institutions.

"[Schmelzer and DaBreo] are talented and well-respected public finance bankers with a wealth of knowledge of our industry," Mike Tierney, managing director in Morgan Keegan's New York public finance office, commented in the release.

"Their experience with state and local governments, agencies and authorities goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to finding the right solutions for issuers in the Northeast."

Morgan Keegan, a Memphis-based brokerage and investment banking firm, is the securities brokerage arm of Regions Financial Corp.
