Five of the new hires come from Jones Trading.

Before that, he had worked two years at Platinum Traders, Inc., a startup company, and worked in the derivatives valuations group at Bankers Trust. Venn received his BA in psychology from Amherst College in 1998.

Douglas Finnegan joins as a vice president from Jones Trading, where he was a convertible bonds sales trader. Finnegan worked at Credit Suisse from 2000 to 2009. He has traded convertible securities since 2005 and was a U.S. and international equity trader from 2000 to 2005. Finnegan received his BA from Vanderbilt University in 2000.

Chuck Manning joins as a vice president from Jones Trading, where he was a convertible bonds sales trader. Before that, Manning was a convertible sales trader at Deutsche Bank from 2005 to 2009. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in economics.

He received his BS in finance and accounting from Boston College in 2001.

Meredith Curley joins as an associate from Jones Trading, where she was a convertible sales trader and business manager. Before that, she worked for five years at Merrill Lynch covering hedge funds for global interest rate derivative products. Her last three years with Merrill Lynch were spent in Tokyo providing overnight coverage to U.S.- and U.K.-based accounts. Curley received her BA in international relations from Harvard University.

"With these additions, we are expanding our well-established international convertibles product into the Americas, completing our global build and making our platform even more compelling for our trading and investment banking clients," Paul Dolan, global head of convertible bonds and who is based in Hong Kong, noted in the release.

Nomura said it began its effort to build a significant presence in the U.S. market in equities and fixed income last year.
