Sterne Agee Municipal Finance Group hires Shams Lawson

Cleveland, Oct. 27 - Sterne Agee's Municipal Finance Group hired Shams R. Lawson as senior vice president and head of the firm's Mid-Atlantic public finance effort.

Lawson has more than a decade of investment banking experience, most recently as lead and support banker for municipal issuers at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Lawson was also the lead banker in 2009 on both the first negotiated refunding in the state of Maryland and the first financing in the state using a retail order period.

Lawson began his public finance career as fiscal officer for Cleveland City Council in 2000. He is a graduate of Ohio State University.

Sterne Agee is a privately owned brokerage firm based in Birmingham, Ala.
