Citadel hires Mayer in leveraged finance; launches investment banking

By Devika Patel

Knoxville, Tenn., May 1 - Citadel Securities announced in a press release that it has hired Carl Mayer as head of leveraged finance.

It also said it has named Todd Kaplan the head of investment banking, reporting to chief executive officer Rohit D'Souza, and Brian Maier as head of industry groups. The three new hires mark the launch of the company's investment banking division.

Maier and Mayer will report to Kaplan.

The investment banking offering is the most recent addition to the Citadel Securities platform, which also includes multi-asset class market making, order execution services, and Citadel Solutions, a leading hedge fund administration business.

Mayer brings more than 23 years of capital markets experience to his role at Citadel. He joins the firm from Merrill Lynch where he was head of leveraged finance capital markets and a member of the origination capital committee. Prior to Merrill Lynch, he was managing director in high-yield capital markets at Deutsche Bank.

Kaplan previously held senior management and coverage positions at Merrill Lynch, including head of global leveraged finance, capital markets and financing, global principal investments and corporate finance. He began his career at Merrill Lynch in 1986, after graduating from Yale University.

Maier is a 25-year investment banking veteran of Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs. His experience encompasses extensive management and origination responsibilities across industries and products. He has completed transactions for clients throughout the consumer, retail, media, education, real estate, hotel, gaming, travel and leisure sectors. Most recently, Maier was group head of consumer industries and equity private placements at Merrill Lynch.

"We have the foundation of an exceptional team of esteemed banking professionals," said Mr. D'Souza. "Together we will be able to deliver fully developed world class capabilities to meet our clients' needs."

With offices in New York and Chicago, the Citadel Securities platform includes investment banking, multi-asset class market making, order execution services and Citadel Solutions, a leading hedge fund administration business.
