Broadpoint adds to bank loan trading group, CLO sales with new hires

Tacoma, Wash., Nov. 18 - Broadpoint Capital, Inc. has hired senior professionals Jeffrey Byrne, Fred Engel, Philip Orenstein, according to a company news release.

Byrne joins Broadpoint in the bank loan trading group. Prior to joining the firm, he was the head of bank loan trading at Z-Capital Partners. Prior to Z-Capital Partners, he spent seven years in various roles within the Van Kampen senior loan group and was named its par-loan trader in 2005.

Byrne graduated from Villanova University with a degree in finance.

Engel and Orenstein join the firm as managing directors and co-heads of collateralized loan obligation sales and tradings in the firm's Broadpoint Descap division.

Engel has more than 20 years of experience in the structured credit markets. Most recently, he was a director in Citigroup's collateralized debt obligation group. Prior to Citigroup, he oversaw the U.S. CLO business at UBS Securities.

Engel has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Orenstein also has more than 20 years of experience in the structured credit markets. According to Broadpoint, he has been instrumental in the development of the CLO marketplace.

He joins Broadpoint from Structured Credit Consultants, LLC, an independent advisory firm. Prior to Structured Credit Consultants, Philip was a senior member of the structured credit group at RBS Greenwich Capital.

Orenstein has an MBA from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the George Washington University.
