KKR head assures investors short-term market troubles have little effect on company's returns

BY Jennifer Lanning Drey

Portland, Ore., Aug. 15 - Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. co-founder George Roberts assured investors that short-term market dislocations have "very little impact" on the company's returns on private equity investments.

While acknowledging that "chaos in the credit market" is making it difficult for companies to obtain financing, Roberts reminded listeners during KKR Private Equity Investors' second-quarter earnings call that the company has weathered similar environments in the past and said it was able to make some of its best deals in times of downturn.

"I think life will go on. Markets will adjust themselves to the current environment that we're in," he said.

Additionally during the call, he responded to concerns about repricing, telling listeners that the company does not expect to experience any repricing of debt commitments related to transactions that have recently closed or are in the process of closing.

Relative to new transactions he said, "The markets are open on the right basis for the right company."

KKR Private Equity Investors is a Guernsey, Channel Islands-based limited partnership that invests in private equity and opportunistic investments identified by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.
