By Devika Patel

Knoxville, Tenn., Oct. 12 - Barclays Capital announced it has appointed Jeff Porphy as a managing director in U.S. leveraged finance.

Based in New York, Porphy will lead the idea generation and transaction development team within the U.S. sponsor coverage group.

He will report to Peter Glaser and Ted Iantuono, managing directors and co-heads of U.S. sponsor coverage, which is part of the U.S. leveraged finance group headed by Rick Van Zijl and Joe McGrath.

"Jeff will play a major role in expanding our U.S. financial sponsors effort," Van Zijl said in a press release. "He brings with him considerable expertise and strong relationships that will add significant value to our overall leveraged finance franchise."

Porphy joins from Credit Suisse, where he worked for 14 years. He was most recently a managing director, head of financial sponsors M&A and co-head of middle market M&A. Previously, Porphy was at Lazard Freres & Co. as a financial analyst in the investment banking group.

Barclays is the investment banking division of Barclays plc, a London-based bank.
