ABI poll respondents like new federal rule on unpublished opinion citation

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, July 14 - The American Bankruptcy Institute said a majority of respondents to a recent online poll agreed that the new federal rule of appellate procedure that allows citation to unpublished opinions as long as the opinion is attached to the legal document in which it is cited is a welcome development, according to an ABI news release.

Of that majority, ABI said 58% strongly agreed and 17% somewhat agreed with the new federal rule.

On the other side, 22% of respondents did not agree that the new rule was a welcome development, 13% disagreed somewhat and 9% disagreed strongly.

A total of 3% of the respondents did not know or had no opinion on the issue.

The latest ABI Quick Poll was open for voting to the public and ABI members from July 6 to July 13.

ABI is an Alexandria, Va., multi-disciplinary, nonpartisan organization dedicated to research and education on matters related to insolvency.
