World Bank, IMF launch online external debt database

By Reshmi Basu

New York, Nov. 18 - The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund launched an online database of external debt statistics for 41 countries.

The database, which is updated quarterly, pulls together statistics that are normally published by countries that subscribe to the IMF's special data dissemination standard.

The tool will provide market participants with more timely data that allows for cross-country comparisons, the IMF said.

The database will include information such as external debt position by sector, maturity, instrument, foreign currency split and forward debt service schedule.

The database can be accessed at http://www.worldbank.org/data/working/QEDS/sdds_main.html.
