Morgan Joseph hires Byrne, Platek for high yield department

New York, Oct. 15 - Morgan Joseph & Co. Inc. said it hired two senior vice presidents for the sales group in its high yield department.

The New York investment bank serving middle market companies said its high yield deparment now has a trading, research and marketing staff of 16 people.

The two hires are Connell Byrne, who specialized in distressed securities at ISI Capital and held similar positions at Stifel, Nicolaus & Co., Kemper Securities (acquired by First Union) and Drexel Burnham Lambert, and James Platek, formerly with Fieldstone Capital, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter and Plymouth Partners.

Morgan Joseph also said it hired three managing directors for its 50-person corporate finance department.

Randy Lampert has previously been head of the leveraged finance group at Nomura Securities and at Salomon Brothers, and formerly was a partner at Patricof Capital Corp.

Evan Klein has been a director of investment banking and head of media, and entertainment at SG Cowen Securities. Previously, he was a principal at Prudential Securities and a vice president at Allen & Co. Inc.

Peter LaFleche, prior to launching his own firm in 2001, had been managing director and head of the consumer group at Needham & Co., Inc. Previously, he was with Dillon, Read & Co. Inc.
