S&P affirms General Electric on acquisition

Standard & Poor's said it affirmed the AA+ and A-1+ corporate credit ratings on General Electric Co.

The outlook remains stable.

General Electric's credit metrics will remain consistent with expectations for the ratings following its proposed partly debt-financed acquisition of Alstom SA's power and grid assets, S&P said.

The acquisition represents a good strategic fit for General Electric, the agency said. Its commitment to limit share repurchases to offset share dilution and to limit other acquisition activity through year-end 2015 reflects the company's commitment to a very conservative financial policy, the agency added.
