Exide Technologies: Superior Court ruling allows plant to stay open

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, July 3 - Exide Technologies said a Superior Court judge issued a preliminary injunction allowing its Vernon, Calif., plant to stay open.

"Based on the judge's decision, we have reopened and returned jobs to our full work force of 130 employees," the company said in a news release.

"We are pleased to be successfully recycling batteries and fully providing this critical environmental service to California again.

"We have already completed installation of a temporary above-ground storm water piping system and are working with the South Coast Air Quality Management District to schedule appropriate testing to confirm our earlier efforts to significantly reduce air emissions."

Exide Technologies, a Milton, Ga.-based maker and recycler of lead-acid batteries, filed for bankruptcy on June 10 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The Chapter 11 case number is 13-11482.
