S&P lowers Empresa Eléctrica

Standard & Poor's said it lowered its corporate credit rating on Empresa Eléctrica de Guatemala SA to BB- from BB and placed it on CreditWatch with negative implications.

The rating downgrade and CreditWatch listing reflect the announcement by the Electric Energy National Commission in Guatemala of the applicable tariffs for the 2008-2013 period, establishing a value-added distribution that is about 55% lower than Empresa Eléctrica's tariffs for the previous period, the agency said.
