Emera files $650 million shelf covering preferreds, debt securities

Knoxville, Tenn., Feb. 23 - Emera Inc. filed a $650 million shelf registration in an F-9 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The registration covers debt securities, first preferred shares and second preferred shares.

The securities may be structured as convertibles.

Proceeds will be added to the company's general funds and used to refinance debt, to finance capital expenditures and for investments and other general corporate purposes.

The holding company is based in Halifax, N.S.
