eGene genetic analyzer system offers rapid test for bird flu

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 25 - eGene, Inc. used Genome Institutes of Singapore's H5N1 avian influenza primers to demonstrate that eGene's HDA-GT12 genetic analyzer can successfully detect H5N1 avian influenza to as few as 10 viral RNA copies.

The sample analysis rate in the HDA system is approximately two samples per minute, or a total of 96 samples in a 96-well plate analyzed in 50 minutes at a cost of less than a dollar per sample.

eGene is an Irvine, Calif., bioengineering company.
