Edison Mission Energy posts $63 million second-quarter operating loss

Pittsburgh, July 30 - Edison Mission Energy reported a $63 million operating loss for the three months ended June 30 on $315 million in operating revenues, according to a 10-Q filed Tuesday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

In comparison, the company posted a $100 million operating loss for the three months ended June 30, 2012 on $324 million in operating revenues.

The net loss for the second quarter of this year was $84 million, narrowing from a $104 million net loss for the same period of 2012.

Meanwhile, the company recorded a $110 million operating loss for the six months ended June 30 on $622 million in operating revenues, compared with a $148 million operating loss on $667 million in operating revenues for the six months ended June 30, 2012.

The net loss for the first half of 2013 was $166 million, improving from a $186 million net loss for the first six months of last year.

Edison Mission had $1,056,000,000 in cash and cash equivalents at June 30, up from $888 million at Dec. 31.

Edison Mission, an Irvine, Calif.-based developer of wind energy projects, filed for bankruptcy on Dec. 17, 2012 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Its Chapter 11 case number is 12-49219.
