Colombia's Ecopetrol plans to bring bonds to market sometime in 2009

By Angela McDaniels

Tacoma, Wash., April 20 - Ecopetrol SA confirmed that it plans to issue bonds in the capital markets sometime this year but said it has not yet determined the amount or timing of the issuance, and whether it will be a single sale or more than one.

Ecopetrol issued the clarification in response to information published by media sources regarding the extension of the deadline to receive debt issuance offers, according to a company news release.

The company began the authorization procedure required to access the capital markets in early 2009 but has not yet submitted a formal request covering a bond offering.

Ecopetrol, formerly Empresa Colombiana De Petroleos, is the state oil and gas company of Colombia. It is based in Bogota.
