Cowen Group names Julie J. Levenson head of private equity group

Knoxville, Tenn., Nov. 13 - Cowen Group, Inc. announced it has hired Julie J. Levenson as managing director and head of its private equity group.

Levenson has 20 years' experience in investment banking and has completed more than 75 financing transactions, representing over $3.5 billion in financing volume, with clients that have included Silicon Graphics, Leap Frog Enterprises, Procom Technology and Aecom Technology. She will be based in Cowen's San Francisco office and report to the head of Cowen's capital markets group, Jonathan Biele.

Levenson joins Cowen from Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin, where she was a managing director leading the firm's private equity and PIPEs effort. Prior to joining Houlihan Lokey, Levenson was a senior managing director in the strategic finance group at Bear Stearns and head of the firm's private placement group.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Dartmouth College and a joint Juris Doctorate/Master of Business Administration degree from the Law School and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, according to a company news release.

New York-based Cowen Group provides investment banking services.
