Blum Capital reports 5.6% stake in Collective Brands

Tacoma, Wash., July 24 - Collective Brands, Inc. investors led by Blum Capital Partners, LP purchased 406,653 shares of the company's stock on July 14 and July 15.

The shares were priced from $8.94 to $9.09 each, according to a schedule 13D filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The reporting persons beneficially own 3,603,967 shares, or 5.6%, of the company's common stock.

The investors may engage in communications with Collective Brands shareholders, officers or directors regarding the company, the filing stated. They may discuss the acquisition of additional common stock, an extraordinary corporate transaction involving the company and/or changes in the board of directors or management.

Collective Brands is a footwear retailer based in Topeka, Kan. It is the result of Stride Rite Corp.'s acquisition by Payless ShoeSource, Inc. in August 2007.
