Winn-Dixie requests three-month exclusivity extension

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Nov. 23 - Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. requested an extension to its exclusive period to file a plan of reorganization and solicit votes on the plan, according to a Wednesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida.

The company wants to extend its exclusive plan filing period to March 20 from Dec. 19 and the solicitation period to May 22 from Feb. 20.

According to the motion, the company has accomplished a significant restructuring of its business and is seeking the extension to afford it the opportunity to negotiate and propose a plan of reorganization.

A hearing is scheduled for Dec. 15.

Winn-Dixie, a Jacksonville, Fla.-based supermarket company, filed for Chapter 11 on Feb. 21, 2005 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. The case was later transferred to the Middle District of Florida. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-03817.
