S&P rates Suncor A-2

Standard & Poor's said it assigned an A-2 global short-term rating to Suncor Energy Inc.

The other ratings on the company, including the BBB+ long-term corporate credit rating, are unchanged.

The new rating reflects an assessment of the company's current and forecast liquidity during the next 12 months, as well as an expectation that Suncor will maintain sufficient back-stop liquidity to fully cover all commercial-paper maturities as they come due, S&P said.

The ratings also consider the company's long-lived reserve base and above-average internal growth prospects, the agency said,

The ratings also reflect its improved geographic diversification and the cash flow stability inherent in its expanded upstream and integrated oil and gas operations, S&P added.
