Saint Vincent asks court for more time to file plan, garner support

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Dec. 10 - Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers requested a second extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and to solicit votes on the plan, according to a Friday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

The company wants to extend the exclusive plan-filing period to April 11 from Dec. 10 and the solicitation period to June 8 from Feb. 8.

A hearing is set for Jan. 20.

Previously the court extended the exclusive plan-filing period to Dec. 10 from Aug. 12 and the solicitation period to Feb. 8 from Oct. 12.

In making its request for the extension St. Vincent said the debtors are in a better position "to begin contemplating the architecture of a potential Chapter 11 plan." However, the company's focus has been on patient care.

St. Vincent said also cited the complex nature of its remaining ongoing businesses and real estate assets.

Saint Vincent, a New York-based health care system, filed for bankruptcy on April 14. Its Chapter 11 case number is 10-11963.
