Hawaiian Electric Industries files shelf registration for debt, stock

Madison, Wis., Nov. 4 - Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. filed an automatic shelf registration in an S-3 ASR filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The registration covers senior debt securities, senior subordinated debt securities, junior subordinated debt securities, preferred stock, common stock, stock purchase contracts and stock purchase units.

The debt securities and preferred stock may be convertible into common stock.

Proceeds will be used to repay debt, to make investments, to finance acquisitions and for working capital and other general corporate purposes.

Based in Honolulu, Hawaiian Electric is a holding company with its principal subsidiaries engaged in the electric utility, banking and other businesses.
