Fitch: Boeing unchanged for now

The machinists' strike against the Boeing Co. could affect Fitch's ratings and/or outlook on the company and Boeing Capital Corp. if the strike extends beyond two to three months, but there is no change to the ratings or outlook at this time.

However, the agency said that the current strike could set back Boeing's goal of improving its credit ratings as a result of either the length of the strike or the terms of the new contract.

Fitch said it believes that Boeing has the financial resources to withstand a strike of at least two to three months by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers', and that most of the negative financial effects will reverse once aircraft deliveries resume after the strike ends.
