Diocese of Oakland asks for more time to file operating reports

By Sarah Lizee

Olympia, Wash., June 15 – The Roman Catholic Bishop of Oakland, known as the Diocese of Oakland, is hoping for more time to file its operating reports, according to an application filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California.

Paul Bongiovanni, chief financial officer of the debtors, said the debtors are committed to filing the reports, but due to the size and scope of the debtors’ operations, collection of the information needed to prepare the monthly reports requires significant expenditure of time and effort on the part of the debtor, its accounting staff and its professionals.

The limited time available to the debtor to assemble the required information, coupled with the added responsibilities of the debtor’s small accounting staff in connection with administration of the Chapter 11 case, necessitate an extension of the 21-day deadline for filing the reports, Bongiovanni said.

The diocese filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on May 8 under case number 23-40523.
