Sandy Road Farms seeks court approval of sale process for farm

By Sarah Lizee

Olympia, Wash., Sept. 21 – Sandy Road Farms, LLC is seeking court approval of a sale process for its 200,000-plus head hog farm based in Plains, Kan., according to a motion filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Kansas.

Under the proposed sale process, the real property auction will be held on Nov. 7, and the equipment and personal property auction will be conducted on Nov. 8.

The real property auction will be held in a “multi-parcel” format so that the property will be divided into smaller tracts that can be bid on individually or in any combination.

“This motion is being filed under exigent circumstances,” the company said in its motion.

“Debtor has ceased operations, liquidated its herd, and seeks to wind down its remaining affairs as soon as possible.”

The company said it isn’t able to pay its “numerous and substantial” debts, and it doesn’t have a viable path for a reorganization or sale of its operating enterprise.

The Plains, Kan.-based agricultural company filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Aug. 1 under case number 22-40446.
