Bruker BioSciences to acquire Bruker Optics for $135 million in cash and stock

Tampa, Fla., April 17 - Bruker BioSciences Corp. has agreed to acquire all of the stock of Bruker Optics, Inc. for $135 million, to be paid approximately 59% in cash and 41% in stock.

The combined company will provide molecular-analysis solutions to the life science, materials research, homeland security and industrial markets, according to a company news release.

After the closing, Bruker Optics will become the third operating company of Bruker BioSciences, in addition to Bruker Daltonics and Bruker AXS. Bruker Optics will continue to be managed by its present management team under its president, Dirk Laukien, who has led Bruker Optics for more than 10 years.

Bruker Optics, based in Billerica, Mass., is a privately held molecular spectroscopy company that develops research, analytical and process-analysis instruments and solutions that are used for pharmaceutical, chemical, polymer and forensic analysis.

Bruker BioSciences, based in Billerica, Mass., develops life science, materials research and industrial X-ray analysis tools.
