Dowling College requests extension to await closing of campus sale

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Jan. 8 – Dowling College is seeking a fourth extension of its exclusive periods for filing and soliciting votes on a Chapter 11 plan, according to a motion filed Jan. 5 with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Specifically, the college asked the court to extend its exclusive filing period by 60 days through March 26 from Jan. 23 and the solicitation period through May 25 through March 26.

Dowling said hearing to approve the sale of its Brookhaven campus, the college’s remaining asset, is scheduled for Feb. 5, with a closing expected shortly thereafter.

“Once the Brookhaven campus is sold the debtor will have a better understanding of the expected recovery to its different classes of creditors,” the motion said.

Dowling is based in Oakdale, N.Y. The college filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 29, 2016 under Chapter 11 case number 16-75545.
