Sports Authority committee looks to hire Pachulski Stang as counsel

Pittsburgh, April 21 – Sports Authority Holdings, Inc.’s official committee of unsecured creditors requested court approval to hire Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones LLP as its counsel in connection with the company’s Chapter 11 cases, according to a motion filed Wednesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

If approved, the hiring will be retroactive to March 10.

In its role as counsel, Pachulski Stang’s duties will include:

• Assisting, advising and representing the committee in its consultations regarding the administration of the Sports Authority cases;

• Assisting, advising and representing the committee in analyzing the company’s assets and liabilities, investigating the extent and validity of liens and participating in and reviewing any proposed asset sales, financing arrangements and cash collateral stipulations or proceedings;

• Assisting, advising and representing the committee in reviewing and determining the company’s rights and obligations under leases and other executory contracts;

• Assisting, advising and representing the committee in investigating the acts, conduct, assets, liabilities and financial condition of Sports Authority, its operations and the desirability of the continuance of any portion of those operations, as well as any other matters relevant to the formulation of a Chapter 11 plan; and

• Assisting, advising and representing the committee in the evaluation of claims and on any litigation matters, including avoidance actions.

Pachulski Stang’s current standard hourly rates for professionals and paralegals designated to represent the committee range from $295 per hour to $1,195 per hour.

A hearing is scheduled for May 25.

Sports Authority, an Englewood, Colo.-based sporting goods retailer, filed bankruptcy on March 2. The Chapter 11 case number is 16-10527.
