Teachers-BCE transaction gets Competition Bureau's OK

By Devika Patel

Knoxville, Tenn., Sept. 21- The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board, Madison Dearborn Partners, LLC and Providence Equity Partners Inc.'s proposed acquisition of Bell Canada Enterprises Inc. will not be challenged by Canada's Competition Bureau, according to a news release.

The bureau concluded that the transaction was unlikely to hinder competition since, despite Teachers' holdings in Manitoba Telecom Services Inc., a competitor to BCE, Teachers' does not have the authority to appoint directors to Manitoba Telecom's board.

The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan is a Toronto-based independent corporation responsible for investing assets and administering the pension of Ontario's teachers.
