Travelport, Worldwide merger gets FTC approval

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., July 16 - The U.S. Federal Trade Commission granted antitrust clearance in the proposed acquisition of Worldspan, LP by Travelport Ltd., the parent company of the Travelport group of companies.

While clearance is still needed from the European Commission, the $1.4 billion transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2007, a company news release stated.

The contemplated merger of Worldspan into Galileo, a subsidiary of Travelport, was announced in December 2006.

Worldspan is a travel technology company based in Atlanta.

New York-based Travelport operates Galileo, a global distribution system; online travel agency Orbitz Worldwide; and Gullivers Travel Associates, a wholesaler of travel content.
