Victhom granted neurosensing patent

By Elaine Rigoli

Tampa, Fla., May 23 - Victhom Human Bionics, Inc. said the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted Victhom U.S. Patent No. 7,027,874 entitled "Body Electronic Implant and Artificial Vision System Thereof (a neuro-electronic device for an artificial vision system)."

Derived from an original patent related to the stimulation of the visual cortex in order to restore various visual dysfunctions, this present filing provides for protection of techniques and methods for measuring and monitoring neurological activity in the central and peripheral nervous systems, the company said in a news release.

This patent is subject to a license agreement that took effect on April 16, 2002, the release said.

According to the terms of this license, Victhom acquired the commercial rights of this technology from Polyvalor Inc, a limited partnership company, for future generations of the Bionic Leg called Power Knee.

This motorized prosthesis is in the pre-commercialization stage by Ossur, the partner of Victhom's BioTronix unit.

Victhom researches, develops and delivers bionic devices that treat a variety of physiological dysfunctions.
