Vertex reiterated by Merrill at neutral

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. was maintained by Merrill Lynch analyst Hari Sambasivam at a neutral rating ahead of the company's earnings that are due to be reported Wednesday. Vertex shares Tuesday gained $0.57, or 3.48%, to close at $16.94 on volume of 864,061 shares versus the three-month running average of 1,917,720 shares.
