By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Feb. 9 - The equally joint venture formed by Telefonos de Mexico, SAB de CV (Telmex) and America Movil, SAB de CV terminated its April 2006 agreement to acquire Verizon Communications Inc.'s indirect equity interests in Compania Anonima Nacional Telefonos de Venezuela (CanTV).

Telmex, a telecommunications company based in Mexico City, and America Movil, a Mexico City-based wireless communications company, did not expect to receive the governmental approvals necessary to complete the acquisition, according to a news release.

Verizon is a communications services company based in New York.
