Schering-Plough restructures European, Latin American and Asia-Pacific regions

By Elaine Rigoli

Tampa, Fla., March 7 - Schering-Plough Corp. announced Tuesday that it has, in an effort to intensify its focus on key regions and countries, made numerous organizational and management changes throughout Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.

The changes are part of the company's six- to eight-year agenda to transform Schering-Plough into a global high-performance competitor for the long term, according to a company news release.

The changes come as the company works to deliver the 12- to 18-month turnaround phase that began in October 2005.

Schering-Plough has restructured its European-based regional organization into two separate areas to increase its focus on the increasingly complex pharmaceutical marketplaces of Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, Canada, the Middle East and Africa.

Likewise, the former Latin America/Far East region has been divided into two separate organizations as Latin America and the renamed Asia-Pacific region.

"These changes allow us to focus even more effectively on the needs of our customers in different markets, to better manage and drive growth and to build a competitive edge through innovation, speed and flexibility," said Fred Hassan, chairman and chief executive officer, in a company statement.

Schering-Plough is a science-based health care company with prescription, consumer and animal health products. The company is based in Kenilworth, N.J.
