Milestone gets FDA approval for computer-controlled infusion pump, to target epidural injection market

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., July 13 - Milestone Scientific Inc. said the Food and Drug Administration granted 510(k) premarket notification acceptance for the marketing and sale of its CompuFlo Computer Controlled Infusion Pump for the delivery of local anesthesia, medications and other fluids to patients.

"We are currently seeking partnership opportunities with major companies in the regional anesthesia market, especially in applications where safety is of paramount concern," chief executive officer Leonard Osser said in a company news release.

"We plan to initially target the $200 million-plus annual market for epidural injections that are administered to women during childbirth procedures in the United States."

Milestone, based in Livingston, N.J., develops, manufactures and markets computer-controlled local anesthetic delivery systems.
