CSFB top high yield underwriter YTD, Q3, Sept.

High yield issuance $363.2 mln in Sept.

High yield issuance $11.0 bln in Q3

High yield issuance $62.9 bln YTD

New York, Sept. 28 - Credit Suisse First Boston held on to its place as top underwriter of high-yield debt, according to data compiled by Prospect News.

The firm was number one for September, the third quarter and the year to date.

Meanwhile issuance slumped in September to its lowest level since Prospect News and predecessor Bridge began collecting the data at the beginning of 1999. Volume for the month was just $363.15 million in only two deals. The previous low was in December 1999 when $1.14 billion came to market in six deals.

However despite the slowdown - the result early in the month of the end of the holiday lull followed by the aftershocks from the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington - issuance year to date is much stronger than last year.

So far $62.85 billion of junk bonds have been sold compared to $44.44 billion for all of 2000.

The third quarter figure of $11.01 billion was almost exactly double the $5.41 billion seen in the third quarter of 2000.
