Judge says AMR, US Airways, DOJ merger-related trial to begin Nov. 25

By Jim Witters

Wilmington, Del., Aug. 30 - A trial on the U.S. Department of Justice's opposition to AMR Corp., US Airways Group, Inc.'s proposed merger is scheduled to begin on Nov. 25 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, according to an Aug. 30 filing.

The DOJ is seeking to obtain an injunction against the merger, saying the move presents potential harm to competition in the industry.

AMR has filed a plan of reorganization in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

U.S. District judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly ordered that the parties confer and contact the court regarding the appointment of a third-party mediator.

A status conference is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. ET on Oct. 1.

The judge also set a deadline of noon ET on Sept. 30 for the filing of a joint status report outlining any issues the parties want the court to address.

US Airways is an airline operator based in Tempe, Ariz.

AMR, the Fort Worth-based parent of American Airlines, filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 29, 2011 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Its Chapter 11 case number is 11-15463.
