By Toni Weeks

San Diego, Nov. 7 - Guggenheim Defined Portfolios, Series 840 has registered units of its Income and Treasury Limited Duration Portfolio of Funds, Series 17 , according to an S-6 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The depositor is Lisle, Ill.-based Guggenheim Funds Distributors, Inc.

The trust seeks to provide current income and the potential for capital appreciation by investing in common shares of closed-end investment companies that invest in various income-oriented securities of different asset classes and shares of an exchange-traded fund that invests substantially all of its assets in short-term U.S. Treasury bonds.

The units will have a maximum sales fee of 4.45%, consisting of a 3.95% deferred sales fee and a 0.5% creation and development fee.

The trust will terminate in roughly two years.
