By Toni Weeks

San Diego, Nov. 2 - Guggenheim Defined Portfolios, Series 838 has registered units of its series 30 Onefolio Private Select portfolio, according to an S-6 amendment filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The depositor is Lisle, Ill.-based Guggenheim Funds Distributors, Inc.

The trust seeks to provide total return primarily through price appreciation and secondarily through dividend income. The trust uses an investment strategy that uses quantitative screens developed by Barish Investment Management, LLC to select 70 stocks from growth and value companies.

On the Nov. 1 inception date, the trust comprised $147,905 of sponsor's contracts to purchase the underlying securities. Each of the 14,940 units is priced at $10 and has a net asset value of $9.725.

The units carry a maximum sales fee of 1.95%, which comprised an initial sales fee of 1%, a deferred sales fee of 0.45% and a creation and development fee of 0.5%.

The trust is scheduled to terminate on Nov. 15, 2012.
