Grupo Aeromexico gets OK to cancel lease agreements for 19 aircraft

Columbus, Ohio, July 23 – Grupo Aeromexico SAB de CV requested and received authorization from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York to reject certain lease agreements for 19 aircraft, according to a news release.

The company said the aircraft are not part of its strategic fleet requirements under current market conditions. The aircraft include five Boeing 737-800s, five Boeing 737-700s and nine Embraer E-170-LR aircraft, as well as four GE CF34-8E5 engines.

The company said the motion is part of its measures to ensure a more efficient and homogeneous fleet to ensure a profitable commercial platform in the new post-Covid-19 economic reality.

The court approved the termination of the lease contracts on Thursday.

Aeromexico said it will follow guidelines authorized by the court and the logistical aspects agreed with the lessors for the orderly return of the equipment.

Grupo Aeromexico, a holding company for commercial aviation, is based in Mexico City. The company filed Chapter 11 on June 30 under case number 20-11563.
