Zenni forms Z Capital Partners to focus on junk senior secured debt markets

By Sara Rosenberg

New York, Nov. 2 - James Zenni has formed a new alternative asset management firm called Z Capital Partners, LLC that will establish a hedge fund to focus primarily on opportunities in the non-investment grade senior secured debt markets, according to a news release.

The hedge fund will initially be seeded with Zenni's personal capital.

Zenni, the president and managing principal of Z Capital, was formerly the president co-owner, and co-founder of Black Diamond Capital Management, LLC.

Other top members of the Z Capital team include Christopher Kipley as principal and senior member of the investment team, Rahul Sawhney as managing director and senior member of the investment team, and Jon Schmugge as chief financial officer.

Kipley is a former managing director and senior member of the investment team at Black Diamond, Sawhney was previously a senior analyst at Black Diamond, where he was responsible for the underwriting and oversight of debt investments in numerous industries, and Schmugge is a former chief accounting officer of Black Diamond.

"In a rapidly evolving investment landscape, I am very excited about this opportunity to lead a new firm and the initial hedge fund. We will be very disciplined with respect to our growth and, as opportunities arise, we will form a distressed debt-private equity fund to pursue control strategies. We are very fortunate to have assembled an extremely talented and experienced group of professionals, and I look forward to our future accomplishments," Zenni said in the release.
