By Kimberly N. Alleyne

Stroudsburg, Pa., Aug. 31 - Bear, Stearns International Ltd. announced Wednesday that it hired Rachna Upadhya to its European equity research pharmaceutical team to work with Alexandra Hauber covering major European pharmaceutical stocks.

"Rachna is an excellent analyst with a strong medical and business background," said Roger Hirst, Bear Stearns' head of European equity research, in a news release.

"Rachna and Marietta Miemietz, who joined us recently from HSBC, significantly strengthen our European health care research, and we are now able to extend our coverage and reach out to more clients."

Prior to joining Bear, Stearns, Upadhya was covering large-cap pharmaceuticals at UBS and before that she covered European pharmaceutical stocks for Merrill Lynch. Upadhya holds medical degrees and a Master of Business Administration from Imperial Management School in London.

Bear Stearns International employs a staff of approximately 1,000 in London.
