S&P: Duke Energy unaffected

Standard & Poor's said Thursday that the fire at Duke Energy Corp.'s (BBB/stable/A-2) 16 billion cubic feet Moss Bluff salt cavern natural gas storage facility near Houston does not affect its rating or outlook on the company and its subsidiaries.

This is because Duke Energy estimates that the cost of the damage is not material and has shut down connections to the gas storage site in an effort to limit the affect of the fire. Furthermore, gas injections into the facility have stopped, and the pipelines that are connected to the storage facility have not experienced any damage, leaving throughput on the pipelines unaffected and allaying any concerns of the fire causing greater harm.

There were no injuries to personnel.
